I’ve started a new project, and I’m loving how it’s knitting up. I’m using Sirdar’s 4ply CountryStyle yarn with pattern 8595 which is a simple wrap sweater that ties at the side. It’s being knit on 3mm needles and is knitting up beautifully. The sweater is mainly a stocking stitch with a moss stitch border, but it does have waist shaping so that means a lot of row counting (and forgetting to turn my row counter!) I’m really looking forward to completing this garment, but on these small needles, it might take a while.
I finally finished that navy cardigan I’ve been working on for 3 years. Correction—it’s almost done. I still need to block it. It’s nice to finally have it finished, and I like how it fits (even unblocked). It will be nice to wear on those chill winter evenings. :)
I’ve heard a lot about people keeping knitting journals, and for the most part I’ve mostly dismissed the entire thing as something I didn’t really need. Until yesterday.
I haven’t done a lot of knitting in the last couple of years with the exception of a few small items for the simple reason that I never had anywhere comfortable to sit. However, circumstances have changed, and I finally have comfy spot where I can sit and knit peacefully while I think about other projects.
Before I start any new projects I wanted to get a few previous projects finished which includes one navy blue cardigan. I started this project nearly three years ago where I got all but one sleeve done. A year and a half ago I picked up the project again and (nearly) completed the remaining sleeve. I picked this up again this week only to try and sew it together and find out that the second sleeve is the wrong size, and it’s much smaller than the rest of the sweater. Unfortunately, back in the begin, I never made a note about using a different sized needle so this sleeve was knit on 4mm needles instead of 4.5mm. I’m a little irked with myself about this, but the new sleeve (on the correct needles) is nearly halfway done so there’s not a huge loss.
This episode, however, has taught me a valuable lesson. Make notes. Even better, keep all your notes in one place. I think I feel a knitting journal coming on. ;)
While surfing the web, I came across a few lovely knitting patterns that I’d really like to do and I got really excited until the thought occurred to me that I have a couple of sweaters in progress in the cupboard. So in order to get myself in gear, I’ve promised myself to get these sweaters done and wearable before I start another knitting project.
One sweater is a DK weight navy blue cardigan which only needs to be sewn together and the banding for the centre front & collar done. It’s that close to finishing. The other (pictured) is a plain jumper of acrylic/merino which only had about 4” done on one piece. The back and front are now complete.
Of course, the thing I love about knitting—as opposed to scrapping and paperarts in general—is that I can do it on the commute to work. :)
